Don Bryant has made his label synonymous with the prized terrior of Pritchard Hill. His land overlooks Lake Hennessey and St. Helena and Bryant is now world-renowned for his rich, signature style California Cabernet. Optimal microclimate conditions prevail at this vineyard, which receives cooling western winds combined with 60% morning sun and 40% afternoon sun in the summer months.

Wine Spectator

A dark, saturated, mouthcoating wine that's fairly muscular, loaded with plush smoky currant, herb, coffee, plum, hazelnut, mocha and mineral. Finishes with a potent gush of flavors and a wall of rich, ripe tannins. In the same class as the '94, '96 and '97 vintages. Best from 2005 through 2015. 700 cases made.

Score: 97. —James Laube, August 31, 2002.

International Wine Cellar

Full medium-deep ruby. Knockout nose of currant, roasted stone, tobacco, leather and smoked meat, all lifted by sexy oak tones. Lush, sweet and extremely concentrated, with the trademark seamlessness shown by Turley's wines of all varietal persuasions. Strongly minerally, with a complicating note of dried herbs. A horizontal wine that spreads out impressively on the palate; tannins are broad and sweet. Tasting these three vintages from youngest to oldest offered a fascinating illustration of how masterful elevage enables a wine from an outstanding site to grow in dimension and complexity. Certainly among the two or three stars of this vintage.

Score: 96. —Stephen Tanzer, May 2002.

Wine Advocate

The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon is as close to a premier cru Bordeaux as Bryant may ever achieve. The tannin possesses a structure and astringency reminiscent of a young Bordeaux. The nose offers up scents of melted licorice, smoky barbecue, truffles, earth, blackberries, currants, coffee, graphite, and blueberries. It is more obviously muscular and less seductive than the 2000 or 2001, because the tannin is more aggressive. The finish is exceptionally long.

Score: 95. —Robert Parker,
