Here's the scoop. The Wine Advocate Italian critic at the time, Daniel Thomases rated this 100% Aglianico cult wine from Campania 98+ points. However, by the time the Wine Advocate went to press, Mr. Thomases was no longer a member of the team. So, his review was never published in the Wine Advocate. His 98+ score is not a fluke. Mr. Thomases also rated the 2001 Serpico 98 points and that review is in the Wine Advocate.

Here is Mr. Thomases review of the 2003 Serpico as found in Veronelli Guide: Bold, spicy and extremely full-bodied, Feudi's 2003 Serpico has more in common with a top growth Bordeaux than it does a Super Tuscan. Mineral scents, toasty oak and black fruits are prominent in the fragrant bouquet. Superbly concentrated with ripe black cherries, anise, crushed minerals green tea, and cigar box notes caress the palate with intensity and great length. This is a big wine with plenty of structure; 30 years of life is not out of the question. 98 points!

Actual bottle from our inventory is pictured. These bottles are in excellent condition, from their original wooden case and all fills are into the neck. Wine Enthusiast

A beautiful wine: sweet cherry and berry fruit nuances are woven within threads of vanilla, toast and ash. Despite the firm and penetrating mineral element, this wine is actually very plush, soft and round and it delivers long spicy notes on the finish.

Score: 91. —Monica Larner, January 31, 2008.

Wine Spectator

A sturdy, chewy Aglianico, with bright berry fruit, mingled with floral, mineral and sweet tobacco notes. Medium- to full-bodied, with an intense bead of fruit, firm young tannins and a long, ultraclean mineral finish. Slightly less opulent than years past but excellent. Needs time. Best after 2008. 7,000 cases made.

Score: 90. —James Suckling, July 31, 2006.
